Top Tier Bandwidth
JCS® uses only premium bandwidth providers with private peering, ensuring minimal latency and an excellent global reach. We use only Tier 1 providers because they offer continuous and clean power, protection from fire, earthquakes, and other disasters, a very extensive network, and exceptional security, reliability and quality of service. We won't sacrifice quality just to save on supply costs. Some hosting companies use cheap bandwidth from providers who use public peering points. These are notorious for causing incredible slow downs, packet loss and even breaks in connectivity. In comparison, private peering offers only top quality bandwidth, no slow downs, plenty of available overhead, and the least number of hops and backbones to get to where you are. JCS® also uses bridging technology, which means that almost every backbone that exists is only one hop away from our core router. This results in the fastest route and most reliable path to you. We also use BGP4 routing protocol, meaning each packet that leaves our network is evaluated and sent out the best route possible. In the event that one of our providers fail, traffic is automatically and seamlessly transferred through our other providers.
Our bandwidth providers supply our data center through an OC-48 diverse path fiber optic SONET ring, allowing for uninterrupted service, even in the event of a fiber cut or other direct CO equipment failure. This ring is capable of supporting multiple OC-192 connections and has multiple entry points into our facility as well as connectivity directly to multiple carrier offices.
Fiber optic lines are much more reliable than copper because they are not subject to electrical interference and they do not require electrical repeaters to boost the signal. This leaves less points of failure and exempts fiber from failure due to weather conditions, including lightning and water. In addition, fiber optic cabling has a much greater capacity for bandwidth than copper. The SONET ring technology carries the fiber optic cable in a ring, giving any point on the ring access to any other point on the ring, even if the cable (ring) is cut. With copper cable, a cut will disconnect the two ends. It is important to note that many data centers and hosting companies share bandwidth and lines, whether fiber optic or copper. JCS® is connected through a private dedicated fiber line and through private dedicated Internet connections (bandwidth). Neither the fiber optic cabling, nor the bandwidth, is shared.
Our internal network is comprised of state-of-the-art Cisco routers, Cisco network modules, and Cisco distribution switches. All equipment is completely redundant, ensuring the highest levels of reliability.
To guard against local power failures, our power systems feature extensive fault tolerance and resilience at every layer.
Main power is routed underground to a dedicated on-site transformer. This system routes to our transfer switch junction which also connects to our power generation facilities.
Our primary UPS features redundant battery cabinets and a full maintenance bypass allowing for service and upgrades without interruption of power to our servers. In addition to offering surge protection and backup power, it delivers full uninterruptible power protection against all common problems to all servers, routers and switches.
Liebert Precision power distribution units handle final power transformation and distribution to racks.
A Cummins Diesel Generator is our backup power, featuring over 24 hours of autonomous runtime before requiring refueling. Generator power is activated automatically by the transfer switch in the event of a grid failure. The intermediate load is capable of being handled for over an hour by the UPS, however this is not necessary as the generator is active and up to speed within 16 seconds of a power failure.
Access to highly sensitive areas and equipment in our data center is granted to approved technical personel only. Electronic security systems control data center access and are accompanied by a full compliment of motion sensor security cameras strategically placed throughout the entire facility. Furthermore, the external walls of our facility are twenty foot high concrete.
We have automatic redundant climate control through Liebert Precision air conditioning units that precisely regulate the temperature and humidity year round to ensure maximum equipment reliability. Each unit contains independent compressors and cooling loops to further enhance fault tolerance and reliability.
Air filtration systems actively remove foreign particulates from circulation and cycle the entire data center air supply in a matter of minutes.
Our facility is fully managed with high-level technicians are on site 24 hours per day. This allows incident response times to be kept to a minimum and system integrity retained with utmost urgency.
